A Trip to Gapyeong, Gyeonggi-do: Doseonjae, A Great Restaurant near Petite France

I visited Doseonjae, one of the best restaurants near Petite France in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi-do.
I heard that Doseonjae is a popular Pyongyang-style naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodle) restaurant in Gapyeong. All of the other dishes along with the naengmyeon noodles were delicious. I would like to say that Doseonjae is one of the best restaurants in Gapyeong. We tried Pyeongyang-style naengmyeon, spicy bibim-naengmyeon, Korean beef rib patties, and brisket point and dried cabbage soup. All of the dishes were neat and delicious.

This is the Yellow Bridge Gallery located behind Doseonjae.
I've visited this place three times this year. I once met some college students in the Interactive Art Museum, and we looked around the museum together. They said they were going to the Yellow Bridge Gallery using public transportation, so I drove them to the parking lot of the gallery. They said they wouldn’t have made it before the closing time if they had used public transportation. They kept saying how much they appreciated it. I also expressed my appreciation because I could find such a nice place with an impressive yellow bridge thanks to them.

I visited the Yellow Bridge Gallery again with a friend in the early spring. It was a unique and interesting gallery. The gallery was still evolving. In the yard, I could see a steel tower connected to the mountain. The passageway was under construction. Once construction work is completed, I’m sure you will be able to see a wonderful view of Cheongpyeong Lake from there. The entry fee includes a free drink. The free drinks were good. My friend and I really enjoyed the Yellow Bridge Gallery. It was a great chance to refresh myself at a reasonable price.

Petite France is a popular tourist destination in Gapyeong that most people know.
I visited Petite France in the early spring, so it was still a bit empty, but I enjoyed the view of Petite France from the boat sailing across Cheongpyeong Lake. I could see the beautiful view of Petite France surrounded by green trees. In fact, Gapyeong is my own destination for driving. I sometimes go for a drive to Gapyeong to relieve stress. Of course I like driving around Gapyeong, but looking around Gapyeong on the boat was amazing as well.

I should have learned water sports when I was younger. I think the summer of Gapyeong is spread out with Cheongpyeong Lake as the center. The summer of Gapyeong is particularly popular with younger generations for a variety of water activities.
I just found out that the 5 hiking trails of Homyeongsan Mountain, well known for Homyeong Lake, are connected to Doseonjae.
I visited the mountain several times last year. I think I will do the same this year as well.

We sailed on Cheongpyeong Lake on the boat to look around Gapyeong in the morning. They dropped us off in front of Doseonjae Cheongpyeong Naengmyeon, known as one of the best restaurants near Petite France.
Wow.
I had crossed the parking lot of the restaurant whenever I was confused about how to get to the main street from Yellow Bridge Gallery.
I think I made that mistake sometimes because the parking lot was so wide.

I went up the stone stairs from the parking lot. Suddenly, a building like a great country house was spread in front of me. I heard that the walls between the garden and the parking lot were lined with red roses and cherry trees full of fruit were in the back yard.
The garden was so beautiful. After having a meal, go over to the garden with a cup of coffee. It’s like a well-decorated coffee shop.

We went to the restaurant at 11am on a weekday because we didn't want to wait. That might have been too early. But Doseonjae is a very popular Pyeongyang-style naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles) restaurant in Cheongpyeong and numerous people visit here especially on weekends, so we could enjoy a meal in a quiet restaurant even though we came as a group.

The tables are outdoors, in central hall, and in rooms. The garden was so beautiful, so I envied people having a meal outside.
We ate in the central hall. Although it was a little bit distracting, I could slightly see the servers working and kitchen staff’s hands in the kitchen. I had a glad conversation with my travel companions during a meal.

Going into the restaurant, I saw the grill irons inside the wide window. I think the grills were for the Gapyeong Korean beef rib patties.
I heard that Gapyeong grilled short rib patties were made of Korean beef produced locally in Gapyeong. The owners said that most of the dishes at the restaurant were made of local ingredients from Gapyeong. I really wanted to try Gapyeong makgeolli, but I didn’t because I had driven there.

I was in a group tour, so the dishes had already been already determined. However, we did see the menu, and some people said it was too expensive for naengmyeon. I agreed with them at first. The Pyeongyang-style naengmyeon dish at Doseonjae in Gapyeong was 11,000 won. After tasting all of the dishes and seeing the ingredients used, everyone including me said that the price was reasonable. I’m sure that my travel companions will be visiting the restaurant again if they have the chance to travel to Gapyeong with their families. All of the dishes were neat and delicious.

Personally, I prefer the spicy bibim style for noodles. I like strong seasoning, so I generally eat spicy bibim-naengmyeon except on special occasions. I heard that Doseonjae is a popular Pyeongyang-style naengmyeon restaurant near Petite France in Gapyeong for a trip to Gyeonggi-do, so I decided to try its signature dish, Pyeongyang-style naengmyeon. We came as a group, so the dishes were served randomly. A bowl of spicy bibim-naengmyeon was put in front of me. Regular naengmyeon was served to the person next to me. I had spicy bibim-naengmyeon, but the noodles were rolled up neatly with a bit of broth and some garnish on top.

Next, the grilled rib patties were served. I saw a cook grilling rib patties when I entered the restaurant. I think the grilled rib patties are made of Korean beef. Grilled rib patties were put on some onions slices, and the dish was served with grilled potatoes, which kids like.

This was our table setting, with Pyeongyang-style naengmyeon noodles, spicy bibim-naengmyeon noodles, and grilled Korean beef rib patties.
A lot of side dishes were served compared to other naengmyeon restaurants. The table setting was satisfactory considering the prices.

Noodles are best eaten quickly, so I hurried to take a picture. Finally, I could eat Pyeongyang-style naengmyeon in Doseonjae, known as one of the best restaurants near Petite France in Gapyeong. I heard that they put great care into making the meat broth. Most of the dishes at Doseonjae were made using local ingredients from Gapyeong. Its dishes can be said to be the taste of Gapyeong with its clean air and water.

Doseonjae img

If I had known about Doseonjae, I would have had lunch here whenever I traveled to Gapyeong with my friends. All of the dishes were neat and delicious. Of course, I wouldn’t eat only Pyeongyang-style naengmyeon even though that was my order. I tasted spicy bibim-naengmyeon noodles too, which were the dish of the person next to me. I always choose spicy bibim-naengmyeon noodles over regular naengmyeon. It would be hard to choose one in this restaurant even though I still like spicy buckwheat noodles. You can select the right dish for your taste.

Doseonjae img

I tasted the broth served with spicy bibim-naengmyeon as well.
I've gotten used to spicy and salty food, so the smooth broth was totally new to me.

Doseonjae img

Brisket point and dried cabbage soup was served while I was focusing on eating my Pyeongyang-style naengmyeon.
Brisket point and dried cabbage soup can sometimes be oily. After putting rice in the soup, I distributed it in small dishes for others. Finally, I carefully tasted the soup. Wow, this was something special. In fact, the most impressive dish of Doseonjae for me was the brisket point and dried cabbage soup :)

Doseonjae img

The garden in the front yard that I had seen when I entered was beautiful. I also found a short forest trail to the right of the building. “You can go to Yellow Bridge Gallery by following this trail.” I have come to the place a couple of times, so I told other people what I knew. I learned that the hiking routes of Homyeongsan Mountain were also connected to the restaurant.
Although it wasn't wide, there was also a stream flowing next to the restaurant.
I really enjoyed the delicious dishes in Doseonjae, which is one of the most popular restaurants near Petite France in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi-do.
I will definitely visit this restaurant again on my next family trip to Gapyeong.
