Let’s say it suddenly begins to rain while you are looking around Gapyeong. Where should you go to avoid the rain? Have you ever thought about it?
You may be in even more of a bind if you are not ready for unforecasted rain.
Anywhere outside would have been great to visit if the weather was nice. The raindrops were getting bigger and bigger, so I had to find somewhere to get in out of the rain. I decided to head for Nine Forest Ewhawon on Jarasum Island.
Visit Nine Forest Ewhawon in any weather if you are interested in the ecology of butterflies.

I go to Nine Forest Ewhawon sometimes when I visit Gapyeong. It’s been a long time since I visited.
Admission may be a bit expensive unless you're interested in butterflies,
so you'll want to see and experience as much as you can.

The sound of rain made the mood even better.
The butterflies didn't seem excited with the rain. Naturally some butterflies would be sleeping while some move slowly on a rainy day.
It was not easy as I expected to see flapping butterfly wings in the botanical garden.

Although it was not a big botanical garden, it had 800 to 1,300 butterflies.
I was surprised that one of these butterflies was worth KRW 3 billion. I heard all of the explanations on my last visit, but it always sounds new to me :)
I recommend that you look around Nine Forest Ewhawon with a guide to learn more. The lantanas were in full bloom when I visited. It is also called chilbyeonhwa in Korean, since the flowers change color.
Butterflies seemed to like the lantanas. A lot of butterflies were gathered around the flowers.

Although Nine Forest Ewhawon is a kind of a butterfly garden, you can also look around at a variety of flowers and trees.
I could also see some water lilies in the small pond.
I think some worms had crawled all over the flowers. The petals of the water lilies seemed to have been chewed by worms. It was sad to see the beautiful flowers damaged.
I suddenly wondered whether water lilies tasted good or not, and how they would taste. Anyway, the flowers were beautiful even though they had been chewed by insects.

I think I hadn't visited at the right time. The botanical garden was not entirely full of flowers.
Nine Forest Ewhawon focuses on the ecology of butterflies, so I think it concentrates on what the butterflies would like instead of the plants.
Ewhawon starts with the Ewhajeong Pavilion at the entrance. In addition, you can look around at the Five-colored Fall Foliage, Wisteria Garden, Butterfly Education Center, Butterfly Observatory, and Butterfly Eco Center.
All of the spaces were different types of forests.
You can also find small gardens here and there including the Yuzu Orchard and Goheung Thatched House.
I walked down the forest trail lined with purple flowers. The beautiful trail cheered me up.

It was also good to walk along the forest trail inside Ewhawon.
You can find rest spots in places along the way.
I remember the coffee shop there where you can enjoy a cup of tea inside the botanical garden.
Since then the coffee shop has been moved outside so people would have more space to look around and relax.

This photo spot was on the lawn at the back gate.

I think something had changed during the past few years while I hadn't visited. The coffee shop, which had been located inside the indoor botanical garden, had been moved to the inner most connected to the outer yard and remodeled into a gorgeous café.
I’m not sure the café is related to the original coffee shop, but in any case Café 9 is connected to Ewhawon. It is good to have a cup of coffee at Café 9 and look around at the butterflies in Ewhawon.
The outer yard had a lounge area and photo spots, making it a great place to take a rest.

You can find an outdoor picnic area and some items under the trees near the back gate where can take some great photos.
I headed to the entrance through the botanical garden again. I found new spaces that I hadn't seen on my way in.
This huge guitar sculpture may look a bit shabby, but it makes a great photo spot.
Ivy and plants made the sculpture look even more beautiful.

The whisper of hydrangea I thought I had looked around Ewhawon enough, but there were still some places that I hadn't visited. I told a staff member that I hadn't seen any hydrangea yet, so he showed me where to go.
A lot of hydrangea of fascinating colors were in bloom near the Thatched House in the Yuzu Forest.
Yuzu trees from Goheung are most beautiful when laden with yuzu fruits, so I just went past here this time, since I was more fascinated by the hydrangea.
The hydrangea were not in full bloom. Ewhawon is a great place to visit regardless of the weather since you can experience different kinds of ecology that vary by season.

This was the story of my visit to Ewhawon on a rainy day when even the butterflies fell asleep.
Although its name may be unfamiliar to you, just visit Ewhawon remembering that the place is for butterflies.
I recommend that you join a guided tour instead of just looking around by yourself. Check the tour schedule and join one to learn more during your time there.
Ewhawon is a world of butterflies, but it doesn't mean that butterflies are all you can see here. You can also see the environment and flowers that butterflies like.
You can also see seasonal flowers and fruit trees. It is a great place to take photos.
Kids like butterflies too, so try visiting Ewhawon with your kids and join a guided tour. It will be an educational and interesting time.
We prefer flowers to butterflies, so we looked around at the flowers like bees.
It was a great chance to get in out of the rain and look around at flowers and butterflies. The time went by so fast.
