I've always wanted to visit the River Market in Munho-ri someday. I finally had the chance to look around there, and dropped by the market on my way to Gapyeong for other plans in the afternoon.
The River Market was bigger than I thought. Just like its banner, saying “Make, Play, and Dream,” there were a lot of things to enjoy and foods to try. If I hadn’t had plans in the afternoon, I would have spread a mat at the riverside and enjoyed a variety of activities.

As you know, there is always a lot of traffic on the roads to Yangpyeong. If I had left home an hour earlier, I could have saved a whole hour of extra driving. When I arrived at the parking lot of Munho-ri River Market, sellers were taking turns helping visitors to find a parking space. I easily found a parking space thanks to them. Some people were already leaving the market after shopping, so it was not difficult to find a space.

The first merit of Yangpyeong Munho-ri River Market is that the market is held at the riverside of Yangpyeong, the symbol of healing, next to the Bukhangang River.
The second merit is that you can find reliable healthy ingredients here. In addition, all of the ingredients are displayed beautifully, which will make you want to buy them even more.
The third merit is that you can relax at the riverside. You can bring your own sun shade canopy and chairs to take a rest and go grocery shopping here. People seemed to be relaxing and enjoying their weekend.
The fourth merit is that you can find a wide range of handmade items including honey-preserved fruits, as well as aprons and dresses. Everything was so beautiful that I wanted to buy all of them.

I became curious about the riverside while walking through the market. Some people were taking a rest sitting on the chairs facing the river. I could also see some sculptures in places. All of the spaces except the market were a rest area for citizens. You can just relax there even without looking around the market.

This is a scarf shop. It was early spring, so a couple of scarves caught my eye. It was fun even just looking around the market.
I could also see some activities for kids. I think that’s why many families with kids were enjoying a picnic there.
Kids were enjoying a variety of activities that they had never done before at the wide riverside, and homemakers were doing grocery shopping. Fathers were taking a rest at the riverside. It was a typical weekend.

Following the first booth, I found the Kids Market in the Munho Riverside Central Plaza.
Children were selling their paintings, old toys, and small clothing which seemed almost new.
Children can sell their own items as a seller and run and play at the riverside. It makes a great experience for children.

A small concert is held in Yangpyeong Munho-ri River Market Central Plaza.
Not only can you sell some items, but also you can enjoy culture.
Yangpyeong Munho-ri Market is becoming a special market that everyone wants to visit one day.
Preexisting markets in other regions should learn such a wonderful market culture.
Markets should become younger and break the stereotype. However, it is not easy to act.
They didn’t just display some items, but they presented the items so well that consumers wanted to buy. The market was buying and selling an atmosphere.

Another set of booths was standing next to Central Plaza.
It was bigger than I thought. It took me almost an hour to look around at all the items from the entrance to the end of the market. Of course, I also bought a couple of items I needed.
Some food stands had already become popular. I saw a long line and went to it to find it was a hot dog stand.
There was no food stand for a whole meal, but I could find plenty of snack stands.

The River Market was pretty wide, so I could see a little girl running to fly a kite that her dad had bought for her.
One of the things you can't do in downtown is kite flying. You can fly a kite here in a wide open space without any power lines.

I went to the end of the riverside, and could see a more relaxing weekend scene here. I saw sellers’ tables and chairs in places, and many families were taking a rest under a sun shade canopy, on a mat, or sitting on camping chairs.
When I visited Yangpyeong Munho-ri River Market last time, the flower had just started to poke up from the ground and some cherry blossoms still remained. This time, all of the trees were green, which put my eyes at ease.

Some people were enjoying early water activities on the Bukhangang River. Even this scene looked like part of the Yangpyeong Munho-ri River Market.
The market is held in different places in Gyeonggi-do each week. The market was expanded to include even Gangwon-do.
I think the River Market is held in Munho-ri, which is the main venue, at least once a month. It is also held in Gonjiam Ceramic Park of Gwangju, Gyeonggi-do and Ye’s Park of Icheon, Gyeonggi-do, and as a pilot in Jarasum Island of Gapyeong, Gyeonggi-do. In Gangwon-do, the market is held in Hujinhang Port and Seorak Beach of Yangyang.
Local revitalization programs seem to be held alongside local festivals.

Puffed rice cakes sell much better this way :)
I wanted to wait in front of the rice puffing machine and
buy a bag of freshly puffed rice cakes.
It was fun to look around at unique items that were not mass-produced at factories.

"I'll Be Your Servant". I recommend this item if you are planning to propose to your girlfriend :)
I was going to buy some honey-preserved fruits on my way back home because they might be heavy, but I forgot to buy them. I don't know how to make fruit preserves, so I really wanted to buy some. I will write it on my shopping list for my next visit.

General items increase in value and catch customers’ eyes better when they are well displayed.
Well-displayed wild vegetables seemed to be of higher quality and more trustworthy.
