Uiwang Rail Park

As the Special Railroad Zone, Uiwang City, Gyeongg-do is well-known for a railroad industry-themed tourist attraction – Railroad Museum where exhibits the whole history of Korean railroad; Uiwang Rail Bike, a riding around Wangsong Lake with a gentle breeze; Sky-rail, a thrilling flight at 41 meter high; Wangsong Lake Campground, a modern and cozy place for a summer party; Uiwang Railway Festival, etc. – and there is an Artificial Eco Marsh, the largest one in the capital area as well. Therefore it’s a perfect tourist area for everyone of all ages. It takes about half an hour by taxi from Gangnam station, so if you’re looking for another tourist site outside but close to Seoul, Please come to Uiwang City!




1. Uiwang Rail Bike

Just get on this Uiwang Rail Bike, and the rail bike takes care of the rest. This 4.3kilometer-long journey offers you such a relaxing time with a beautiful open view of Wangsong Lake, the largest bird sanctuary in the Seoul metropolitan area, smell of summer grass and fresh breeze. It consists of 7 courses and the last two courses - SPEED ZONE at which literally you can ride faster feeling much cooler and speed, and MIST ZONE, you feel like you’re in a wet fog – blow away this summer heat for a while. Don’t be surprised at quite a strong spray than expected!

For those who still worry about or hate riding rail bike in the sun is much better riding at nighttime. Uiwang Rail bike opens at night every year with beautiful illumination. You can see totally different view from one of daytime with much more romantic feeling.

TIP. Do not ride during the hottest hours and please wear a hat and sunglasses!
       Portable electric fans are recommended!

About 10 minutes later, there is CENTRAL STATION where there are convenient facilities such as cafeteria and toilet, and you can rest about 10 minutes there. And as soon as you start again, get ready to pose and smile! You can buy the photos at the ticket office.

2. A wonderful harmony of East and West of Mushroom Recipes, Mushelin

Mushelin, a delicacy around Wansong Lake site, is named after the combined word, Mushroom and Michelin. If you want a ‘well-being’ food, especially made of Mushroom, Mushelin is perfect for you. You can enjoy a luxury meal of 12 courses - Button Mushroom Cream Soup, King Oyster Mushroom Sushi, Sweet and Sour Pork with Shiitake, Korean cold salad with tree ear, Mille-feuille nabe, etc. You can’t take your eyes off every meal and a open view of Wangsong Lake enriches the flavor of food. After the meal on the 3rd floor, you can enjoy a cup of coffee on the 2nd floor.

3. RAILROAD MUSEUM

Uiwang RAILROAD MUSEUM, the largest railroad museum in Korea, shows the whole history and future of Korean railroad, and even tickets are the old style ones like actual tickets used before.

The first thing you can see is an Outdoor Exhibition that features about 20 actual railroad vehicles and equipment run and used before. In particular, there is the only remaining steam locomotive and an old presidential train designated as cultural property. And you can see interior of the vehicles as well.

At the 2-story Indoor exhibition, the most popular one is RAILROAD DIORAMA, from a steam locomotive to KTX, the latest high-speed train in Korea. You can see and learn the history of Korean trains with guide’s clear and easy explanation.

On the 2nd floor, you can see both of history and future of Korean railroad. There is a Driving Experience Zone via VR and collecting all stamps at each exhibition is a little fun for children.

 
Tip. If you are good at Korean, booking an exhibition tour with guide would be better. (Twice a day on weekdays, 5 times a day on weekends, please check web site for details.)

4. Sky-rail, A Thrilling Flight

UIWANG Sky-rail is a zip wire that offers a thrilling flight at the maximum speed of 50mph. The ride starts from a 41-meter-high tower on the hill above the Wangsong Lake Campground. Riders go up to the observatory in an elevator and when it’s their turn, they go up to the deck upstairs. Following the instructions of the professional guide, they put on safety gear, take a deep breath, and wait for the countdown. With the departure signal, they will surely be amazed by both the rapid speed and the fantastic panoramic view of the Wangsong Lake below their feet.

5. A Midsummer Night’s Romance, Wangsong Lake Campground

 

Today’s recent trend of outdoor activity is Camping. However, still people are worried about or make a kind of big deal about camping because of short of time, longtime driving and so many camping equipment need to prepare. Don’t worry now! Just come to Wangsong Lake Campground in Uiwang.

Wangsong Lake Campground has 10 decks with picnic tables for the veteran campers having their own tents, 15 Glamping Tents with all the comforts of a hotel room - a cozy bed, electricity, heat, a huge fridge, TV, etc. – for the beginner campers. If you want a luxurious camping, the European-style Caravans are recommended. Deck-users can use public restrooms and showers, Glamping Tents have indoor toilets and Caravans also have separate toilets outside.

Equipment for barbecue party isn’t offered, so you should bring your own grills, charcoals, gas torches, and the pork, of course. You can cook only at designated areas, and using firewood in campsite and cooking in the Caravans are not permitted.   

Online booking is available only and draw for winners randomly from the pre-booked. On the 3-4th among Uiwang citizen primarily, and 8-9th among every subscribers of each month.
