Phytoncide, Forest Healing, and Fall Foliage Jathyanggi Purunsup Forest in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi-do

Gapyeong is the town of pine nuts. During the harvesting months of September and October, the subtle pine fragrance here is charming. The Jathyanggi Purunsup Forest in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi-do, consists of pine trees over 80 years old, forming a “blue forest.” Located on an altitude of 450–600 m at the foot of Chungnyeongsan and Seorisan Mountains, it is not difficult to see the fall foliage. The wellness program carried out between April and November is another highlight. You can enjoy forest healing, forest interpretation, a children’s forest experience, and a woodcraft experience. The forest healing program starts with a checkup at the healing center followed by a walk on the forest trail with the forest healing instructor. Depending on the selected program, you will participate in forest meditation, qi exercise, a tree hug, or a wind bath, experiencing the essence of the “healing forest.” Forest interpretation is carried out in different ways for children, adults, and families. Here, you communicate with the forest using the five senses, such as by observing the pine nut forming in the pinecone. The program is fun, useful, and loved by children. It also accepts 4–15 people and is free of charge. If you want to enjoy a simple walk, go for the course that goes through the Hwajeonmin Village and Healing Center to reach the check dam, which reflects the colorful mountain, as well as the observatory. Next to the check dam is a forest trail where you can enjoy a wind bath amid pine trees. Here, you will forget about your tired body and mind and enjoy a time of rest and healing.
