Hiking up to the top!

The first thing you would have to do to enjoy the views from the top is to endure the hike. It takes a total of 90 minutes from the entrance to the top with a total distance of 3.5 km. Of course, it might not seem long but it would take a lot more time because it's uphill. We were told by the locals that if you go fast and do not rest that much, you can make it up in 45 minutes. We did not rest and kept going throughout but we still took a total of 120 minutes to get to the top.

The hike can be pretty strenuous so be sure to be in comfortable gear such as breathable clothing and proper walking shoes. There are many rocks, including slanted rocks, on the pathways so you would need shoes with traction as well. There are some shops selling drinks, ice cream and water along the way but they're priced for convenience so it would be good to bring your own drinks!

We saw many people bringing camping gear up to the top and setting up their tents at the peak so I believe it's also a beautiful place where many hikers spend the night to see the stars. However, if you're not confident to hike down the mountain at night, it would be best to plan your trip early.

Tip : It is important to calculate the time taken to come back down. It's a 3-hour trip up and down the mountain so it's best to start heading up around 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. because the sun sets around 6 p.m., especially since you're up on the mountain. There are no lights since it is a natural hiking trail and there are many rocks along the way.

Autumn vibes

Although the highlight of the festival is the silver reeds at the top, you will be blessed by the beautiful autumn foliage as you climb uphill. The leaves of all the trees have a good mix of red, yellow and orange and they make for beautiful photos. On the way up, you can also see natural waterfalls and streams that just take your breath away. There are many bridges that you can add to your photo collection as well.

On the way up, we overheard an older lady telling her friend that "the strength that nature gives is huge." I can't help but agree because although the hike up was tiring, the beautiful colors, fresh air and lovely landscape views really amazed me to no end. Even being able to stop for a second and admire the surroundings made the experience much more bearable.

This mountain is close enough to Seoul for a day trip, and can be likened to an easier version of the famous Seoraksan Mountain in Gangneung.

Tip : Even if it's tiring, take as many photos as you can, lest you regret it when you get back to the bottom. You cannot replicate such beautiful photos in a city such as Seoul.

Silver Reeds Festival

Lovely white grass swaying in the wind, and fields upon fields of these cream-colored plants just does something to soothe and calm your soul. Not to mention they provide just the perfect backdrop to your contrasting clothes when you pose for a photo. They are the second best thing to look forward to during autumn, only trailing behind the autumn foliage. You can only find large fields of silver reeds in certain parts of the country, and they are only available for a short period in autumn.

Once you've arrived at the top, take time to snap as many photos as possible and even go up to the observatory deck to see the fields of silver reeds in their full glory. There's something magnificent about them swaying with the wind in unison, especially when the sun is setting. The festival is definitely one of the more memorable ways to enjoy autumn with a friend or your loved ones.

Tip : You can either wear contrasting colors to bring out the subject (you) in your photos, or you can choose to wear cream- or brown-colored clothing to try and match the colors of the silver reeds.
