However, on Fifth-day market (5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, and 30th of each month), you will have to walk for about 5 minutes to the Yongmun Intercity Bus Terminal to take a bus.

Intro

Enjoy taking some funny and lively snapshots at the Youth Memories of Retro Museum! The museum offers visitors an opportunity to wear old school uniforms of the 1970s and ’80s and take amusing photos of themselves on special sets. Young people who haven’t experienced those days will discover the lifestyle of the time, while older people can recall fond memories of their youth at this retro museum filled with the analog sensibility of the 1970s and ‘80s.

Nearby tourist attractions include the Mural Village, which is decorated with interesting murals, and Yongmunsa Temple and its 1,100-year-old ginkgo tree, which attracts many visitors and photographers, especially in autumn, when its yellow leaves create a splendid scene. Since the opening of Yongmun Station on the Gyeongui-Jungang Line, the Yongmunsan Tourist Area has become a popular tourist destination thanks to its easy access to public transport.

Course 1.

Youth Memories of Retro Museum, it’s time to slip back into the past!

The Youth Memories of Retro Museum will take you back into the past. This two-story museum has faithfully reproduced old buildings, spaces, streets and scenes of the 1970s and ‘80s in Korea, including a rice soup restaurant, tea house, school, train station, Go-Go dancing room, cinema, a scene of measuring the length of miniskirts, etc. It provides an old school uniform rental service so visitors can take photos of themselves dressed in a uniform, either in a classroom or on the railroad, or in other spaces with a fun atmosphere. It also offers various retro-plays such as Piling, Dalgona, Korean style hopscotch, Jegichagi and so on. At this museum, time flies as you take lots of fun photos and, if you’re old enough, reminisce about the past.

Course 2.

Yongmunsan Jungang Restaurant, a Korean restaurant specializing in grilled bonnet bellflower roots, and a set menu with seasoned wild vegetables

Yongmunsan Tourist Area has many restaurants specializing in set menus with seasoned wild vegetables. Each restaurant serves a unique set menu with generous servings. In particular, Yongmunsan Jungang Restaurant is famous for its approx. ten seasoned wild vegetables and its unique taste of soybean paste stew. It is advisable to order not only the set menu with seasoned wild vegetables but also the grilled bonnet bellflower roots.

Course 3.

Yongmunsan Mural Village, where water runs in the alleyway

In Yongmunsan Mountain you can see water flowing steadily along the alleyway. But be warned! It is not real water but a trick painting that looks just like flowing water. The Yongmunsan Mural Village attracts many visitors with its interesting murals featuring trick art. The village’s buildings, including restaurants and accommodations, are decorated with pretty paintings of a cat, a girl, a puppy, and witty trick art images among other things. It is a popular spot to take interesting photos against the attractive background of mural paintings.

Course 4.

 

Ginkgo Tree at Yongmunsa Temple, making wishes for eternal love! 

After passing through Iljumun Gate at Yongmunsa Temple, it is recommended to take a walk along the dense forest road for about 15 minutes. If you walk along this flat road you will eventually come to a huge 1,100-year-old gingko tree that was bestowed a high ranking position during the reign of King Sejong. This ancient ginkgo tree, which is also called a “Sinmok (divine tree)” or “Yeongmok (sacred tree),” is surrounded by a protective fence on which many wish notes are attached, including wishes for eternal love.

Useful Tips for Walking Tourists

Tip 1. Doap Coffee, a chic café in a village

Doap Coffee is just two or three minutes-walk from Yongmun Intercity Bus Terminal. With a stylish interior resembling a hotel lobby with whole glass windows, it consists of two floors – a large space on the 1st floor and a cozy space with a comfortable sofa on the 2nd floor. The coffee shop is decorated with various pot plants including cactus, as well as grey and violet-colored furniture, and exudes a refined atmosphere. Equipped with a large coffee roasting machine in a corner, Doap Coffee offers delicious, aromatic coffee.
