Chang Ucchin Museum of Art Yangju City, an art park for a picnic

The highlight of the Jangheung Art Tour is the Chang Ucchin Museum of Art, whose beautiful exterior appeals to couples and young people. The museum building, gently placed on a green grassy hill, is designed to look like wrinkled white paper. It’s labyrinth-like interior displays artworks by various modern artists including Chang Ucchin, while its huge, luminous glass windows seem to invite the natural outdoor environment into the interior.

The BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) selected the Chang Ucchin Museum of Art Yangju City as one of the “Eight Greatest New Museums”. It is said that the museum has the shape of a knot of several layers when viewed from above, as well as the shape of a crouching tiger. The museum harmonizes with its sculpture park, situated across the bridge below which water flows. You will see many people enjoying a nap or a picnic on the grass amid the relaxing atmosphere of the museum.

Artist Chang Ucchin (1917 ~ 1990) pursued simple lines and colors, and was known for his love of children and animals. The Chang Ucchin Museum of Art Yangju City owns 362 of Chang’s artworks, and also exhibits various works by modern artists.
