The city of Gwangmyeong is home to an art multiplex specializing in upcycling. As one of the largest art spaces in the Seoul Capital Area that opened in 2015, the Gwangmyeong Upcycling Center holds exhibitions, educational programs, activities, and shows about upcycling. The museum sits at the foot of Gahaksan Mountain, which seems appropriate considering its theme. The museum is a remodeled PR wing of a resource reclamation facility, and its eye-catching exterior was created by the renowned architect Laurent Pereira. The walls are built with half-transparent plastic, through which the light from the interior seeps out at night. An expansive exhibition hall is located on the first floor, along with an art shop and theater. From the exhibition hall, visitors walk through a passageway to go to the Eco Edu Center, which offers spaces for collaborative art projects and educational programs. In particular, the center offers weekday programs for adults and weekend classes for families and children aged six and older. Other programs include the Eco Architecture School for teenagers, the Replay Maker program that gives participants the opportunity to build and play upcycled musical instruments, and the Fantasy Webtoon program that allows participants to create their own webtoons with webtoon artists. All three programs require online registration. The museum also runs a free docent tour program (four tours per day; no registration required).
