The Yeongneung and Nyeongneung Royal Tombs in Yeoju are the resting places of King Sejong and King Hyojong, respectively. The Yeongneung Royal Tomb is the first royal tomb of Joseon where both a king and his queen were buried. The Yeongneung Royal Tomb is Joseon’s first royal tomb where both a king and his queen were buried, in this case, King Sejong and Queen Soheon. Many of the artifacts demonstrating King Sejong’s achievements exhibited here, such as a celestial globe and a hemispherical sundial, make the tomb a good educational spot for children. At the Yeongneung Royal Tomb, visitors can also learn about King Sejong’s life and achievements, including the making of Hangeul at King Sejong the Great Museum. The “King’s Forest Trail” connects the Yeongneung Royal Tomb and the Nyeongneung Royal Tomb, which belongs to King Hyojong. The quiet and relaxing trail is flanked by old pine trees. The rich autumn colors, the blue sky, and the green pine leaves harmonize to accentuate the feel of autumn. Wildflowers refresh and brighten up the travelers’ moods at either side of the trail. The trail does not have steep uphill or downhill, and there are numerous photo spots for people on a picnic. It takes around two hours to reach the end of the trail and back, even for slow walkers.
