Ticket Office: Korea’s Best Cave Themed Park
  • Gwangmyeong Cave has been transformed into a hugely popular tourist attraction by renovating an old mine that remained abandoned for 40 years. The mine was developed by the Japanese imperialists to exploit Korea’s natural resources back in 1912. After Korea regained its independence, however, Gwangmyeong Cave was preserved as an industrial heritage related with the nation’s modernization and industrialization, and as an historic site that bears testimony to the Japanese exploitation of Korean laborers and the country’s natural resources. After its closure in 1972, the mine was used as a salted shrimp warehouse for the next forty or so years.

Then, in 2011, Gwangmyeong City purchased and renovated it into a cultural space, which is now regarded as Korea’s best cave themed park. Packed with cultural entertainment facilities that attract more than 2 million people every year, Gwangmyeong Cave consists of exhibition halls, an aquarium, wine restaurant, a reproduction of France’s Lascaux Cave, a VR experience center, a media tower, a cave observatory, Golden Outcrop, and Aixia Forest, and so on.

  • It provides a shuttle bus known as the Elephant Bus from Ticket Office No. 3 to Soha-dong Parking Lot No. 3 (situated near the KTX Gwangmyeong Station). In addition, the Gwangmyeong Upcycle Art Center is located near to Gwangmyeong Cave’s parking lot No. 1, while the outdoor café is situated near to Ticket Office No. 1, and the food court ‘Cave Café’ is located on the 2nd floor of the Gwangmyeong Upcycle Art Center.
