Haewoojae Observatory: Commanding a panoramic view of Haewoojae Museum
  • The Haewoojae Museum has been included on the list of Guinness World Records as Korea's First and Largest Toilet-shaped Building. Its observatory offers a clear view of this structure as well as the Toilet Culture Park.

The Park is full of interesting sculptures such as the 'Toilet Seat Rest Area', which is situated next to the Women's Toilet and Men's Toilet (Hoja) of the Baekje Dynasty, and the 'Chamber Pot Rest Area' situated on the left at the very end of the park.

  • It is said that one spends about one whole year of one's life in the restroom. The Chinese character 糞 ('bun', meaning 'feces') is a compound of 米 ('rice') and 異 ('different'), meaning 'another rice'. At this point, we might like to remember the philosophy of Sim Jae-deok, who is credited with saying: "Feces are rice! It's not something dirty; it is our culture, in which we can find the principle of the circulation of life."
