Head of the Buddha: The largest head of Buddha in the world (listed in the Guinness World Book of Records)
  • Upon entering Waujeongsa Temple, the giant golden Buddha’s Head immediately catches the eye. This Buddha’s head, or buldu in Korean, is 8 meters high, making it the largest Buddha’s head in the world, for which, it has been listed in the Guinness World Book of Records.

It is said that about 30,000kg of brass was used to make this statue, and if its body is ever completed in the future, it will stand over 100 meters tall. A 108m-high Buddha statue would be so huge that it would be visible from a great distance, but its gentle smile would charm visitors’ hearts.

Below this Buddha’s Head are a number of small Buddhist statues along with a prayer box. Visitors can buy a prayer candle at the nearby self-service stand and write a prayer on it before lighting it and putting it in the prayer box.

  • The World Buddhist Museum is situated next to the Buddha’s Head. Although individual visits are not allowed, group visitors are allowed to enter the museum by advance reservation.

The Museum exhibits a wide variety of Buddhist statues and valuable Buddhist relics from around the world, such as an anatomical chart, the sarira of Sakyamuni, stupas, and Buddhist sutras. The world’s largest emerald reliquary of Buddha is also displayed on the left-hand side of the museum.
