Jukjusanseong Fortress

Located on Bibongsan Mountain in Maesan-ri, Jukjusanseong Fortress is thought to have been built during the Unified Silla Period and undergone massive repair works during the Goryeo Dynasty. The fortress, which is composed of three parts (i.e. a 270m-long inner fortress, a 1,688m-long main fortress, and a 1,500m-long outer fortress), was designated as Gyeonggi Monument No. 69 on July 10, 1973. It was also the scene of a battle during the third Mongol Invasions of Korea in 1236 (the 23rd year of the reign of King Gojong of the Goryeo Dynasty), when Defense Official Song Mun-ju drove back a Mongolian army together with the people who were taking refuge inside the fortress.
