Sujongsa Temple

Historic figure Seo Geo-jeong from the early Joseon Period is said to have referred to Sujongsa Temple as “the most scenic spot of the East.” The courtyard of the temple offers a picturesque view that begins at Bukhangang River to Dumulmeori, especially at dawn when the wet fog billows up from the water surface and sunset. The spring water at Sujongsa Temple has long been known for its quality. Seon Master Choui and scholars Jeong Yak-yong and Kim Jeong-hui are said to have visited the temple to drink tea made from the spring water. Hong Hyeon-ju, King Jeongjo’s only son-in-law, and many other classical scholars visited the temple to meditate and enjoy the scenery. Sujongsa Temple still stands on the same spot, offering the timeless vista that went down in history.
