Starfield Goyang

The total floor area of Starfield Goyang is 364,000㎡, which is equivalent to the area of 50 soccer fields. Warehouse-type discount store E-Mart Trader and multiplex movie theater MEGA Box can be found in Starfield as well. Starfield Goyang has put a lot of effort into the experience-oriented facilities. In fact, 30% of the total area is occupied by experience facilities. The facilities are not limited to kids, however. It is operating kids theme park “Toy Kingdom Play” and Lego experience space “Brick Live,” including Sports Monster, which offers extreme sports such as climbing and drop slide, as well as various sports experiences such as archery and shooting. It also has various facilities for the whole family to enjoy such as bowling alley, VR simulation experience hall, screen golf facility, and water park & spa. On the 4th floor where the experience facilities are located, visitors can enjoy entertainment facilities such as “Sports Monster” and “Brick Live,” including movie theaters.

Grave of General Lee Jongmu

He was a military official in the early Joseon Dynasty and talented at the horse riding and the archery from his childhood. He commanded the army to conquer the Tsushima island. Burned out 129 ships, 1940 houses with 227 warships and 17 thousands soldiers, the island was conquered by him and his military and won the war. .

Saeunjeong, Pavilion

This was built in Joseon Dynasty and designated as the Local Relic No. 50 in 2001. The purpose of the creation was to discuss studies. Based on the document, it was built in the early sixteen-hundreds and restored in 1796. Its roof is a shape of the gambrel roof, harmony of a gable roof with two slopes on each side and a hip roof. There is a signboard 'Saeunseong' written on the front of the building.

Standing Buddha in Mipyong-ri of Yongin

The statue, made of granite heading to the southeast, is 4.5m high, 0.5m thick and 1,3m in width. The wrinkles covering the neck symbolize the pain, the karma and the anguish in life. Above the head is the baldachin instead of the coronet. The hands putting on the heart and holding a jar containing amrita (water of immortality existing in the Buddhist world) are attractive. It has crescent-shaped eyes, a sharp nose, and big head in comparison with the body. This statue is the biggest in Yongin.

Historic House of Lee Ja

The traditional house was lived in by Lee Ja(1480-1533), a scholar and a civil official in Joseon Dynasty. The footman' house burn down and the main building remained. The shrine wasn't created compared to other Yangban's houses, the noble class. It has a special construction that the detached part of the house ( a man's space of the house) and the inner one (main building) are connected as the one building but both a man and a woman used the space separately.

Tumb of Yuhyeongwon

He was a Silhak scholar who studied practical matters in the Joseon Dynasty. Gyeonggi-do designated it as the Tangible Property No 3 in 1976. There are a gravestone, a stone putting the incense burner on in front of the grave, a stone table in the mist. The statues shaped the civil official are standing on the both side. He prosecuted the economic and the social reformations for the public.

Sports Monster

At Sports Monster, visitors can enjoy ball games such as basketball, baseball, and futsal, in addition to climbing, jumping on the trampoline, and VR experience if you do not like sports. In particular, it has a 64m zip coaster and a 3X3 basketball-dedicated stadium as well as English kids sports academy SOCATOS for the first time in Korea to provide different experiences for both children and adults. Bogwangsa Temple, Paju

Among the many kings of the Joseon Dynasty, nobody would hesitate in choosing King Jeongjo as the most filial king. In addition to King Jeongjo, King Yeongjo, who was King Jeongjo’s grandfather, also showed devoted filial love to his mother. King Yeongjo’s mother Sukbin Choe came to the royal palace as a maid; she later became a royal concubine of King Sukjong and gave birth to a baby who became King Yeongjo. In the TV drama Dong Yi, she was depicted as the main character Dong Yi. Bogwangsa Temple was the Buddhist sanctuary for the grave of Sukbin Choi, Soryeongwon, and it received royal benefaction until the late period of the Joseon Dynasty. King Yeongjo had extensive remodeling done on Daeungbojeon Hall and Manseru Gatehouse at Bogwangsa Temple and personally wrote the signboard of Daeungbojeon. The currently remaining signboard is known to have been written by King Yeongjo. Bogwangsa Temple’s Daeungbojeon has a unique exterior wall that cannot be found from other temples. Other temples usually applied lime plaster on the walls, except the façade that had doors, but Bogwangsa Temple’s Daeungbojeon had wood siding walls covering the back and left and right sides of the hall. Furthermore, 10 wood siding walls had murals that presented an appropriate mixture of Buddhist paintings and folk paintings. They included Banyayongseon, a painting depicting a boat used to go to the Land of Happiness, three men carrying a big boulder where Water-moon Avalokitesvara clad in white robe and a young boy are sitting, several Buddhist saints sitting on splendid lotus flowers, and a divine guardian and an elephant protecting Buddha. A white tiger that often appears in folk paintings can also be seen. Viewing the murals feels like touring a museum of art.

Museum of Modern History of Korea, Heyri Art Village in Paju

Customs Hall: Exhibits artifacts by theme for visitors to experience alleys and to walk the streets of the reproduced city downtown during the 1960s. The exhibition provides high educational value by composing the setting under various themes such as old post office, hardware store, watch store, pawnshop, and old-style tea house. Cultural Hall: The space shows how our fathers and mothers studied. It presents exhibits by theme such as stationery store, elementary school, teachers’ office, and textbooks. Nostalgic Hall: Koreans used to get water from common taps at that time. When the world boxing title match was held, people used to go to the tea house to watch TV. Women wearing short skirts went through difficulties with the authorities checking the length of the skirt on the street, and men with long hair were cracked down on by the police and shaved with a hair trimmer. Here, the word “nostalgia” seems to bring a smile on the face. History Hall: Koreans went through a lot of political and cultural changes for the past 100 years of modern history compared to those experienced for over several centuries. Korean history is the record of the footsteps taken by Koreans. We can learn a lot from the past, and the future can get important learnings from the present. Visitors will be able to have historical awareness here.

Soekkol Village

Soekkol Village is a compound farm near DMZ (demilitarized zone) in Geumgok-ri, Paju City. The village was called “Soekkol” in the olden times because it was well-known as a valley full of cattle grass, so the name of the farm reflects the old name. Forest of Prenatal Education

The 5.2km long forest path starts from the main gate of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, goes through the forest trail near Nogobong and larch forest, and to Choburi Forest. Depending on the difficulty level, the path consists of 4 courses: Imdo Garosu-gil Road (2.2km), Lee Sajudang Path (0.5km), Yongin Prenatal Education Forest (0.7km), and Imdo path (1.8km). Along the uphill are a valley and some pavilions offering a fantastic distant scenic view, installed for the convenience of pregnant women.
