Cheongpyeong Lake

Cheongpyeong Lake is an artificial lake that was formed with the construction of Cheongpyeong Dam in 1944. The surrounding high and low mountains and clean lacustrine landscape blend together harmoniously, creating a picturesque scene. Cheongpyeong Lake was selected as the first of the Eight Scenic Views of Gapyeong in recognition of its beautiful scenery and numerous other charms. As well as being well-known for its attractive lakeside driving course, Cheongpyeong Lake is also a paradise of leisure and water sports. In summer numerous people come to enjoy leisure and sports amid the superb scenery of the lake. The various shops situated along the edge of the lake are equipped with water sports equipment and facilities for water-skiing, motor-boating, jet-skiing, water sleighing, fly-fishing, wakeboarding, and bungee jumping, and also provide lessons for beginners. Cheongpyeong Lake contains numerous species of fish including leather carp, carp, bass, and mandarin fish, making it a famous destination for anglers. As the water is cool and clean, nighttime fishing, rather than fishing in the strong sunlight, is particularly recommended. As the main body of the lake is a venue for leisure activities, anglers are advised to fish only in the tributary area of the lake.
