Royal Tomb of King Gongyang of the Goryeo Dynasty

This is the tomb of the tragic King Gongyang, the last king of the Goryeo Dynasty (r. 1389-92) and his wife, Queen Roh. Although he was a king of Goryeo, the tomb was built during the transition from one dynasty to another, and thus exhibits the styles of both Goryeo and Joseon. King Gongyang was exiled to Wonju in Gangwon-do Province immediately after the foundation of the Joseon Dynasty in 1392, and was murdered in Samcheok, Gangwon-do in 1394 (the third year of the reign of King Taejo of Joseon), where another tomb is situated. The tomb, arranged in the style of twin tombs, is designated as Historic Site No. 191.
