Falling into Autumn, a colorful picnic in Gyeonggi-do!

Autumn is getting dyed its own colors. How about going to a special picnic to savour a short but strong taste of autumn in Gyeonggi-do?

 

The beautiful autumn colors of Korea start from the end of September to the beginning of November, and of Gyeonggi-do starts from about Oct. 15 and peaks around Oct. 28. Before this beautiful colors fade, come to Gyeonggi-do!


1. Jaein Falls in Yeoncheon

Jaein Falls is well-known for streams falling down from black basalt columnar joints. This columnar joints made around Hantangang River are very unique because the basalt columnar joints are made around the beach in usual. And various kinds of rocks from volcanic activity are points to see.

Jaein Falls in autumn boosts such a splendid harmony of streams falling down vertically from columnar joints and surrounding picturesque background. You can enjoy 360-degree view of this stunning falls from 27meters tall Skywalk observatory. Its transparent glass floor gives you a thrilling experience akin to ‘walking in the air’.

It takes an hour and half from Seoul to Jaein Falls, so it’s recommend as a one-day trip with other tourist attractions around.

Public transportation:

1. Take Bus #56, #56-1 at Jeongok Terminal and get off at Gomun 1-ri Bus Stop

2. Get off at Yeoncheon Station of Gyeongwon Line and take taxi to Jaein Falls (approx. 19 minutes)

 

2. Goyang Lake park

Located in Goyang City, Gyeonggi-do, Goyang Lake park is the city’s the most loved resting place. Its clean walking path and bicycle trail with beautiful scenery attracts people the most in autumn.

A 5.8km-long walking path shows the spectacular fall leaves in a variety of autumn colors and silver grass, and with a background of the huge lake, it feels as if a very short course. To the northwest lies a Musical Fountain dancing to the music and the lights, and soars up to 35 meters tall. With various lineup of music, all generations can enjoy together.

1. Get off at Jeongbalsan Station of Line 3 and walk from exit 1 or 2 of Jeongbalsan Station to Lake Park (approx. 10 mintues)

3. HO-AM ART MUSEUM

Opened in 1982 HO-AM ART MUSEUM features such a beautiful harmony of Korean traditional arts and nature. The museum’s annex, Hee Won is a Korean traditional Garden. Visitors can not only appreciate the gorgeous scenery as if it’s a work of art but also learn each meaning of every places and ancestors’ ancient wisdom. Passing through the main gate to the Museum grounds, Bohwamun which means to collect and keep works of art in safety, you greet a huge Japanese apricot flower grove full of spring scent.

From the following, it shows gradually the faces of autumn. Maple trees surrounding a pavilion and a pond are glorious with a cool autumn breeze. This autumn’s cool and sweet flavor would ease our tension of daily life making us to kick fallen leaves and play with the leaves. As you keep walking enjoying this beautiful and silent garden, you can see the museum. It exhibits Modern Art, Wood Furniture, Folk Paintings, Buddhist Art, Ceramics. HO-AM ART MUSEUM offers a magnificent view of each season besides fall; spring full of cherry blossoms, summer of fresh grass scents, winter covered with white snow. 4. Mulhyanggi Arboretum

Founded under the theme of ‘a harmony of water, trees and human beings’, Mulhyanggi Arboretum consists of 19 theme centers, and about 1800 kinds of plants in total. Among them, no.1 scenery of autumn is the Maple Tree Center full of colorful maple leaves. In late fall, especially, various kinds of fallen maple leaves cover the whole street and it feels as if a red river runs through it. Visitors can fully enjoy the last flavor of fall before the cold winter comes. If you want another taste of fall different from it, a Metasequoia Road next to the Warm Temperature Zone is recommended. It’s the most popular photo spot in Mulhyanggi Arboretum as it has a different kinds of beautiful scenery in each season. A little more subdued color of metasequoia now than red maple leaves will make you relaxed.
