 Icheon Geobuk nori Festival

Icheon Geobuk nori (“turtle game”), Gyeonggi-do Cultural Heritage No. 50, is a traditional practice seen in the southern parts of Gyeonggi-do and parts of Chungcheong-do since the days of the Joseon period. Every Chuseok holiday, people made turtle shapes out of sorghum leaves and carried them around town, wishing for good harvest and health and happiness of every household in the community. The Geobuk nori Preservation Committee has been holding the event since 2004 with subsidies from the Gyeonggi Culture Foundation, aiming to reenact properly and spread the custom and to create a model for small community festivals with citizens.
