Gimpo Jungbong Cultural Festival 2016
The Jungbong Cultural Festival will be held on June 4 at the Sau Culture and Sports Square to commemorate Jo Heon’s compassion for the people. Jo Heon (pen-name: Jungbong) was a philosopher who served as a leader of the Righteous Armies during the Imjin War (Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592–1598). As a prior event of the Jungbong Cultural Festival, a Korean traditional marching band will march starting from the Bukbyeon Public Parking Lot, passing the Statue of Jo Heon, to the overpass in front of the City Hall, to Dolmun Market, Sau-dong Community Service Center, and then passing the City Hall, and to the Sau Culture and Sports Square as the event venue. During the festival, various cultural events for teens will be held such as demonstration of an appeal to the higher court of the Joseon Dynasty, food tasting featuring “Yangtang,” a dish passed down for generations in Jungbong’s family, folk play performance, operation of the legendary characters of Yeoujae Valley, essay writing contest, and painting contest as well as exhibition and sale of products.
