Filming Location for Descendants of the Sun Turns into a Tourist Destination
The Camp Greaves DMZ Experience Center in Paju, Gyeonggi-do, one of the filming locations of the sensational TV series Descendants of the Sun, will be transformed into a ‘must-see’ tourist destination for the drama’s fans at home and abroad.
After the signing of the armistice agreement at the end of the Korean War in 1953, Camp Greaves was used by the US Army for over fifty years, until it was returned to Korea in 2007. Since 2013, the camp has been run as the only youth hostel located within the civilian control line, based on the agreement to support the national security experience facilities signed between Gyeonggi Provincial Government, Paju Municipal Government and the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization.
As Descendants of the Sun is gaining massive popularity in many Asian countries, especially in China, the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization began expanding its promotional efforts in mid-March in a bid to attract attention from travel agencies in major Chinese cities including Shanghai and Beijing. The organization plans to encourage the development of diverse tourism programs, before the Chinese vacation period starts in earnest in June, and provide field trips for Chinese tourism officials.
An official from the GTO said that they are making concerted efforts to boost the tourism industry in the northern area of Gyeonggi-do Province, with the successful development of tourism products associated with Hallyu (Korean wave) contents.
