Paju Jangdan Soybean Festival 2015
Nov. 20th – 22nd, 2015
The Paju Jangdan Soybean Festival is held by Paju-si around the soybean harvest time, which is every November, to promote the high quality of Jangdan Soybeans produced in Paju and to increase the consumption of local agricultural specialty products and vitalize the local economy.
As a profitable festival for Paju’s economy, the Paju Jangdan Soybean Festival (themed Well-being Product! The World of Jangdan Soybeans!) featuring soybeans produced in the clean environment of the DMZ takes place at the Imjingak Square in Paju-si. In particular, the “Jangdan Soybeans” produced in Paju have always been highly regarded for their taste and outstanding nutritional value and were even served to the king. Furthermore, in the early 20th century, Jangdan Soybeans were designated as the most superior soybeans in Korea and were distributed throughout the country. The festival, which can be enjoyed even by tourists, offers diverse experience and participatory programs related to Jangdan Soybeans. Thanks to the recent “well-being” craze, interest in and consumption of soybeans are increasing. The Paju Jangdan Soybean Festival will be developed as Korea’s representative local festival.
