The fortress has never been defeated for the entire 2000-year history. Silla Dynasty relics including roof tiles discovered from the recent restoration work of the Temporary Palace (Haenggung) newly shed light on the history of Namhansanseong Fortress. This year, the Fortress celebrates its first anniversary of registration as UNESCO’s World Heritage Site. The Gwangju Namhansanseong Cultural Festival offers visitors an opportunity to understand and learn about Korean ancestors’ history and wisdom of life through various cultural and art programs including Joseon Dynasty’s Military Parade, Buddhist Chanting Performance, and Reenactment of Historic Scene.
