Dasan Culture Festival

As a city amid natural surroundings formed by nearby beautiful mountains and rivers, Namyangju is located on a path linking Seoul with Gangwon-do Province. High mountains like Cheonmasan and Chungnyeongsan are favorite destinations of locals and Seoulites.
The Dasan Culture Festival has been held annually since 1986 in an effort to inherit the spirit of seeking truth from facts and loving grassroots people kept by Jeong Yak-yong (1762-1836, pen-name: Dasan), a foremost scholar of practical science from the area. It has become a leading local festival and was even selected as one of the top ten festivals held in Gyeonggi-do.
Major programs include: Dasan Awards, Dasan Calligraphy Contest, literature and arts contests, parade of traditional band and group of Confucian scholars, traditional art performances, performances for the recreation of the way of life of people during the Joseon Period, etc.
