2015 Hwaseong Songsan Grapes Festival
August 29th – 30th
Songsan Grapes Festival, which is Hwaseong’s representative autumn festival, will be held for two days between August 29th and 30th at the plaza of the Gungpyeong Port in Seosin-myeon. This year’s festival will be particularly special as premium grapes with a high sugar content are produced due to the abundant sunlight this year.
The festival consists of various events and cultural performances, such as grape tasting and judging contest; grape stomping; wine footbath; winemaking; agricultural produce sale; singing contest, and grape-related games. Visitors who have made a reservation ahead of time by phone can have an opportunity to harvest grapes and enjoy the experience with their families. Hwaseweong Grapes, which are also known as Songsan Grapes, boast an excellent quality with a high sugar content as they are cultivated in soil rich in organic matters from shellfish, and are grown in an oceanic climate with sea winds, abundant sunlight, and significant temperature differences between day and night. Some 1,600 farms in the Songsan area of Hwaseong-si, including Seosin and Mado, are cultivating 965 hectares of vineyards and produce some 22,000 tons of grapes annually.
