Gwangmyeong Cave Summer Night Festival
July 15 – August 30
The Gwangmyeong Cave Summer Night Festival hosts activities in a cave that is only 1.5 kilometers away from KTX Gwangmyeong Station. It is also just an hour’s drive from Seoul and Incheon. Features of the cave include the Light Space, Cave Art Center, Cave Aqua World, Golden Road, Golden Waterfall, Cave Underground World, and Wine Cave. Riding the Elephant Vehicle Aixia and the opportunity to collect ores firsthand provide couples and families an enjoyable time together.
The area was formerly a gold, silver, bronze, and zinc mine. During the colonial period, locals were forced to work there and the excavated resources were taken to Japan. Upon the country’s liberation, the resources came were used for the country’s economic development. The City of Gwangmyeong developed it as a tourist destination in 2011. More than 1.2 million people have visited the cave. Throughout the summer of 2015, the following special programs are held: Summer Night Festival, Gwangmyeong Cave Wine Festival, Night Time Visit to Gwangmyeong Cave, Cinema Horror Show, Hologram Magic Show, Laser Show, 3D Film Showing, and the African Cavemen Festival.0
