Bucheon International Comics Festival (BICOF)
August 12 – 16
The BICOF, which marks the 18th anniversary this year, has secured its position as a festival representing Asia for comic books and graphic novels, presenting a long-term vision of Korean comics. The organizers have included a variety of programs like exhibitions, international comic fairs, conferences of the world’s artists specializing in children’s comics, and hands-on experiences in an effort to make it an all-inclusive event for artists, businesses, enthusiasts, and other visitors. The event has come a long way to establish a foundation for the development of the comic book industry, provide people with greater opportunities to enjoy art and culture, develop local industries, and strengthen Bucheon’s position as an international comic book town.
On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the country’s liberation from colonial rule, this year’s event will focus on the theme of war and peace under the subject of “70+30.” The event will shed light on how comics have dealt with their eras and the role they will play over the next 30 years.
