[Air Show Meeting the Korean Air Force]

The largest air show in Asia, the 2014 Gyeonggi Air Show with the Korean Air Force, is reborn this year. Collaborating with the Korean Air Force, the 2014 Gyeonggi Air Show with the Korean Air Force is hosted in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do. Welcoming its 6th show this year, the event will showcase the best of what an air show can offer once again. Starting in 2009, the show has provided citizens with a positive glimpse of recreational air sports. Last year alone, the event attracted over 500,000 visitors for five days, transforming itself into the largest air show festival in Asia. This year, working with the Korean Air Force, the event will showcase a professional, thrill-packed fighters show.

The air show unfolds on the Suwon Airfield near the Seryu Station in Suwon for three days between October 10th and the 12th. Following last year’s show, Winky and Amily, the main characters of the popular animation, The Airport Diary, are once again publicity ambassadors for this year’s show. Shown in KBS2 between 2012 and May 2014, the animation garnered wild popularity from children and was honored with the MIP Junior Grand Prix for ages 3 to 6 in Cannes, France and the 2012 Korean Content Grand Prize Presidential Award in the area of animation. This year, the characters, working with the special Korean air force team, Black Eagles, will once again deliver dreams and hopes to visitors.

The highlight of the event will be the air show performed by the Black Eagles which has received top honors in the Waddington International Air Show (Great Britain) and Royal International Air Tattoo (Great Britain). This year, Black Eagles will perform for an hour including a ground performance, showcasing the best of the Korean Air Force.

The air show will also highlight performances by renowned air show teams. The performances by Hubie Tolson, representing an American air show, and Zontan Veres, a Hungarian air circus leader, are schedule to appear in the air show. Hubie Tolson was a United States Aerobatic Team member between 2004 and 2005, as well as between 2008 and 2009, and participated in two air show competitions. Zontan Veres is a professional aerobatic specialist and received medals in various air show competitions including the Aero Grand Prix World Cup and European Aerobatic Championship; his specialties include cutting ribbons from ten feet high.

Aside from splendid air performances, the festival features diverse experience-type programs including boarding an aircraft, aviation simulation, making a model aircraft, and 119 safety training. As such, unlike other observation-oriented air shows, the event will provide visitors with exciting opportunities to board and experience aircrafts.

The aircraft boarding program, one of the most popular programs each year, offers visitors drawn from a pool of those who reserved the show online an opportunity to ride in an aircraft or helicopter; they will enjoy flying between Korea’s Independence Hall in Cheonan and the Seohaedaegyo Bride.

Other on-site aviation programs include ten diverse aviation education programs, a game-oriented simulation program, 3D Theater, and control tower simulator program.

Visitors can purchase tickets to the various education programs and receive customized education to their liking. The program will not only offer aviation theories, but also opportunities for participants to make a glider, model hot-air balloon, and aerobatic craft (Black Eagle).

[Special Programs of the Air Show: Pilot Aviation and Aircraft Exhibition] In addition, the air show will offer diverse pilot aviation presentations, such as how to extinguish a forest fire, rescue people, and respond to a disaster. The show also exhibits diverse aircrafts from different eras and with different functions, which range from a light aircraft to a model aircraft. Security-related equipment will also be exhibited. Various guideboards will help visitors understand aircraft exhibits.

The event will operate the 119 Safety Experience Camp with diverse 119 rescue experience programs in preparation for emergency situations, offering fun, safety education to visitors. In particular, the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters will operate the 119 Special Response Team, which will respond to any emergency situations that arise during the air show.
